Modern and environmentally friendly
The Gemeinschaftsklärwerk Bitterfeld-Wolfen is a highly modern sewage clarification plant, having one of the highest cleaning capacities in the new federal states. Shareholders are Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH, holding 66 percent, and Abwasserzweckverband Westliche Mulde (sewage management association), holding 34 percent.
The joint water treatment plant cleans
- the industrial waste water of the companies in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park,
- the domestic sewage from the approx. 30 districts of the sewage association, and
- contaminated groundwater.
The joint water treatment plant is equipped with
- four aerobic BIOHOCH® reactors
- an innovative anaerobic industrial sewage pre-treatment plant, efficiently pre-cleaning waste water containing high portions of salt
- its own clearing sludge combustion plant, processing the residual substances in an environmentally compatible way.
Facts:
- The joint water treatment plant has a cleaning capacity of 586,000 population equivalents.
- Currently its utilization rate reaches approx. 90 percent.
- Max. 77,000 m3 waste water can be treated per day.
- In total, 52 employees care for the smooth operation of the plant - all around the clock.
- About 9 million m3 of cleaned sewage are discharged in the river Mulde every year.
