What is done to ensure the protection against the re-rise of groundwater?

"Protection of the Chemical Park": In this concept, measures have been taken that avoid the re-rise of the groundwater table in the Chemical Park. The areas are secured and the building and facilities are protected.

The modern groundwater management provides the companies optimal protection against the re-rise of the groundwater table.

Samples are regularly taken at approx. 800 measuring points and wells in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen region to monitor the spreading of the contaminant front in the quaternary and tertiary aquifers.

• The smooth operation of the flow protection systems North-East, Greppin, Bitterfeld and Evonik is ensured.
• Groundwater monitoring: The water levels are regularly measured at approx. 800 groundwater measuring points in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen region.
• The groundwater is lifted and discharged, so that the protection targets are complied with.
• A total of 55 wells is currently maintained. 
• Service provider for accredited sampling as per DIN 17025
